Moving Beyond Gait, Function in Vertical Using NDT Problem Solving
October 17–19, 2026
This introductory to intermediate-level course is designed for physical and occupational therapists treating children with neurological challenges who are acquiring functional skills in vertical and preparing for or acquiring gait. The contemporary framework of NDT will be presented as it relates to assessment and intervention for the acquisition of skills in vertical. Experiential labs will be performed with peers in the course and used to facilitate stability and mobility through movement transitions and to learn handling techniques for the treatment of functional tasks typically done in vertical. Assessment and treatment demonstrations will be used to demonstrate treatment and handling techniques on clients based in a problem-solving approach towards an identified functional goal.

Using the NDTA Contemporary Practice Model to Facilitate Functional Shifts in Children with Significant Physical Challenges
October 20–22, 2026
The task of integrating aspects of postural control, alignment, and respiration in the completion of functional activities can be a challenge for all therapy disciplines working with individuals with cerebral palsy and other neuromuscular disorders. This introductory level course is designed for physical and occupational therapists and speech and language pathologists and those assistants who currently work with or desire to work with children presenting with neurological challenges that have resulted in significant physical challenges. Learning about the NDTATM Contemporary Practice Model and applying it through observation of assessment and treatment demonstrations with practice of treatment strategies in labs will more directly impact postural control and coordination, alignment of body segments and support dynamic postural activity, stability, and control. Functional goals and shifts in function will be explored for children with significant physical challenges with emphasis on how they might help the caregiver help them.

Handling Intensive to Improve Core Stability Toward Functional Goals
October 24–26, 2026
This 3-day introductory to Intermediate level workshop will enhance critical thinking skills for Therapists who are currently treating children with a variety of neuro-developmental challenges. Participants will learn to critically assess children through observation and analysis and hypothesize the causative impairments to identify intervention strategies and treatment sequences to achieve a child-specific functional goal. Foundational information will be contrasted with the challenges demonstrated by children with developmental, neuromuscular, and/or sensory/perceptual difficulties. Emphasis will be placed on therapeutic strategies and interventions of the Contemporary NDT practice model using the International Classification of Function (ICF) in handling children to gain core stability for functional goals (ADLs, play, leisure, walking, speaking and eating, etc) and improved participation (family and recreational pursuits at home, at the playground, in school with peer group, etc). In movement labs, participants will have the opportunity to facilitate one another through movement transitions and in this process learn handling techniques to facilitate functional skill acquisition. Movement/simulation labs will support experiential learning. A review of anatomy and kinesiology of the trunk and proximal limbs may be helpful before attending the class.
